You’re Moving Through Life Too Fast—Here’s What You’re Missing

By Monique Rhodes

Hi, this is Monique Rhodes. Welcome to the In Your Right Mind Podcast, where we're learning how to be happier by working with our minds.

If you'd like to know more about what I teach, come to howhappyami.com Let’s find out how happy you are.

A Message That Hit Home

One of my students recently wrote to me:

"Lately, I feel like life is passing me by. I’m busy all the time, but I don’t feel connected to anything."

And honestly, how many of us feel this way?

The Rush and the Fog

Life is coming at us fast.

We’re multitasking.

Pushing forward.

Trying to stay ahead.

And yet—

We feel behind.

Because in the rush, we forget to look.

The Ordinary is Extraordinary

I was telling my students about an ordinary day in my life.

And how, all through that day, I find extraordinary moments—

  • The way the light hits the floor in the late afternoon.
  • A stranger’s smile on the street.
  • The stillness of the early morning.

Not because anything magical is happening.

But because I’m noticing.

The Sacredness of Now

We spend so much time:

  • Rehashing the past.
  • Rehearsing the future.
  • Measuring how we’re doing.

But we miss the sacredness of this moment.

This breath.

This version of you.

This unrepeatable moment.

It has never happened before.

It will never happen again.

What Changes When We See Clearly

When we begin to truly see, something opens.

We soften.

We savor.

We slow down.

  • A sip of coffee becomes sacred.
  • A laugh becomes music.
  • Even grief becomes a tender reminder that love once lived here.

Everything is changing.

And that’s the gift.

Reverence and Wonder

My word this month is reverence.

Because when we understand the impermanence of life, something shifts.

We stop taking things for granted.

We begin to appreciate—

  • Our own humanity.
  • Our imperfections.
  • Our hesitations and longings.

Not as failures—but as part of the beautiful whole.

Presence is Enough

This doesn’t require perfection.

It doesn’t require years of practice.

It requires a willingness—

  • To look up.
  • To notice.
  • To see with fresh eyes.

Because true presence isn’t about achieving something.

It’s about being here. Now.

Even as I record this, I watch two wasps hovering near the window. I don’t want them in the room—but still, I pause in wonder.

This moment—just like this—is enough.

This Is It

You don’t have to wait for someday.

You don’t have to earn happiness.

It’s here.

Right now.

In this moment.

This is the poignancy.

This is the beauty.

It’s been here all along.

You just have to look up and notice.

I hope this has been helpful. As always, be kind. Take care. Go gently in the world.
