Hi, this is Monique Rhodes. Welcome to the In Your Right Mind Podcast, where we're learning how to be happier by working with our minds.
If you'd like to know more about what I teach, come to moniquerhodes.com and let's get you started on a path to being happier.
That Quiet Hum of Pain
One of the things I see in so many people I work with is this subtle, quiet ache underneath it all.
Not rage.
Not tears.
Just a constant static—like something’s wrong, but you can’t quite name it.
The Lie We Learned
Somewhere along the line, many of us internalized the idea that we’re broken.
- Not that we made a mistake.
- But that we are a mistake.
It doesn’t come all at once. It builds over years—
Misunderstandings, small rejections, words that cut too deep.
And in our confusion, we look for a reason—
If I feel this way, it must be because something’s wrong with me.
You Are Not the Story
But that voice in your head?
The one that says:
- “I’m not enough.”
- “I mess everything up.”
- “Everyone else has it together.”
That’s not truth.
That’s repetition.
That’s habit.
And habits can be broken.
The Way Out is Kindness
When those dark feelings show up, don’t fight them.
Don’t add judgment to the pain.
Don’t confuse hurt with identity.
Instead—
- Pause.
- Breathe.
- Be on your own side.
Kindness disrupts the cycle.
And in that interruption—healing begins.
You Are Still Whole
The pain may come.
But it doesn’t define you.
You’re not broken.
You’re human.
And you’ve been hurt.
But underneath all the noise,
There is a you that’s still whole.
Still worthy.
Still here.
And that, my friend, is more than enough.
I hope this has been helpful. As always, be kind, take care, and go gently in the world.
