In April 2009 I faced one of lifes storms when I was sacked from a job I had been doing for thirty years. The following year was an amazing eye opener for me and made me the resilient person I am today. I went from a six figure salary to zero overnight and my reputation was on the line. I remember in those first 24 hours the only thing that mattered was did I have enough money to pay the mortgage this month(survival roof over my head) and enough money to buy food for my pets and my family (survival food) for the next two weeks. My case went to the Employment Court (I won with one of the biggest cash settlements ever paid in New Zealand) but my biggest win from all of this was the people who openly supported me, especially during the court case. In times of great storms you find out who your true supporters are. This event fifteen years ago provided me with the understanding of the effects of life storms so this year when I was faced with the death of my husband, the decision to sell the family home and business, and to move to another part of the country to start a new business I had the resilience to move on with ease and peace.
