Hi Monique, I wonder to what extent the food we eat contributes to that. Is it our decision to be optimistic first that pushes us to eat well that brings the happy hormones in or is it the fact that we eat well that generates happy hormones that produce optimism? Or would you not relate this to food at all? I would tend to think it’s a bit of both. What do you think?
Hi Mani – think you’re right—it’s likely a bit of both, with a complex interplay between our mindset and the food we eat. On one hand, deciding to be optimistic or making a conscious choice to prioritize wellness can motivate us to make better food choices. Eating nourishing foods then supports our body in producing those “happy hormones” like serotonin, which can enhance our mood and reinforce that positive outlook.
On the other hand, the food we consume directly impacts our body and brain chemistry. For instance, foods rich in nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, and tryptophan have been linked to better mood regulation. Eating well can create a more balanced physiological state, making it easier to cultivate optimism and resilience.
So, it feels like a cycle—our mindset influences our choices, and our choices shape how we feel physically and emotionally. What’s beautiful is that by addressing either side—our mindset or our diet—we can create a ripple effect that strengthens both.💕
