This One Thought Is Quietly Destroying Your Confidence—And It’s Time to Let It Go

Hi, this is Monique Rhodes. Welcome to the In Your Right Mind Podcast, where we're learning how to be happier by working with our minds.

If you'd like to know more about what I teach, come to moniquerhodes.com and let’s get you started on your path to a happier life.

The Whisper That Wears You Down

There’s a quiet thought many of us carry.

It says:

  • “I’m not enough.”
  • “I always mess things up.”
  • “Other people are just made for more.”

And we believe it. Because it’s been with us for so long.

Sometimes it even sounds like truth.

When Habit Disguises Itself as Humility

We tell ourselves we’re being honest.

We call it self-awareness. Even humility.

But what it really is… is a habit.

A deeply practiced story of unworthiness.

And habits feel powerful—until we remember they’re not permanent.

What You Practice, You Build

Every time you think,

  • “I’m broken.”
  • “I’m behind.”
  • “I’m not good enough.”

You’re rehearsing a belief.

You’re building it—one quiet thought at a time.

So the real question becomes:

Do I want to keep strengthening this?

Because that choice? It’s yours.

Your True Nature is Not Flawed

You are not the story.

You are not the shame.

You are not the spiral.

Underneath it all, you are:

  • Open
  • Spacious
  • Capable
  • Loving
  • Free

That’s not just feel-good fluff. That’s clarity.

When You Forget (Because You Will)

We all forget who we are.

But that doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

You can return.

You can pause mid-spiral and say:

  • “I see what’s happening.”
  • “I don’t want to keep building this.”

Sometimes you just need to put a hand on your heart, take a breath, and be kind.

Even laugh a little and say, Nice try, inner critic. Not today.

What You Feed Grows

Feed the thoughts that make you brave.

Feed the voice that reminds you:

  • You are enough.
  • You are not your past.
  • You belong here.

And when the old story returns—

Use it as proof that you’re aware now.

Use it as proof that you’ve already begun to change.

You Can Always Begin Again

You're not broken.

You're not a project.

You're a whole human being—and your goodness is not up for debate.

So if you’ve forgotten, come back.

Drop the story.

Choose again.

Because you’re not unworthy.

You’re just waking up.

I hope this has been helpful. As always, be kind, take care, and go gently in the world.
